Sunrisers Eastern Cape v Paarl Royals
St Georges Park

St George's Park Cricket Ground (commonly known as St George's Park, Crusaders Ground or simply Crusaders) is a cricket ground in Gqeberha, (formerly known as Port Elizabeth), in South Africa. It is the home of the Port Elizabeth Cricket Club, one of the oldest cricket clubs in South Africa, the Eastern Province Club and Sunrisers Eastern Cape. It is also one of the venues at which Test matches and One Day Internationals are played in South Africa. It is older than Kingswood College in Grahamstown. The ground is notable for its brass band that plays during major matches, adding a unique flavour to its atmosphere. The ground hosted its first Test match in March 1889 when England defeated South Africa by 8 wickets. This was South Africa’s first Test match. As of 2005, there have been 21 Test matches played at the ground of which South Africa has won 8 and their opponents 9 with 4 draws. The first One Day International played at the ground was in December 1992 when South Africa beat India by 6 wickets. It also hosted five games in the Cricket World Cup in 2003. The stage is set for a thrilling penultimate group-stage showdown as Sunrisers Eastern Cape take on the Paarl Royals at St George’s Park on Saturday, 13 February 2027. Scheduled as a prime day-night fixture starting at 17:30 SAST, this Match 29 encounter carries heavy playoff implications as the regular season reaches its absolute boiling point.

As the final Saturday double-header of the league stage, the atmosphere in Gqeberha will be completely electric. The match kicks off in the warm late-afternoon sun and transitions into a dramatic night under the floodlights, soundtracked by the relentless rhythms of the St George’s Park brass band. With both franchises pushing hard to secure optimal seeding or survival in the knockout race, expect a packed, intensely vocal crowd backing the “Orange Army”.

This match serves up an intriguing contrast of style and squad construction, featuring deep-rooted player rivalries:

  • The Royals’ Pink Powerhouse: Paarl relies heavily on the cool leadership and finishing prowess of Proteas icon David Miller, alongside international maestro Joe Root, dynamic dynamic all-rounder Sikandar Raza, and a spin arsenal led by Bjorn Fortuin.
  • The Sunrisers’ Defense: The home side will counter with their explosive middle-order engine room spearheaded by Tristan Stubbs, tactical orchestration from Aiden Markram, and the fast-bowling threats of Marco Jansen and Anrich Nortje.
