Mandela Bay Theatre Complex

Mandela Bay Theatre Complex (previously known as Port Elizabeth Opera House) with two theatres, namely The Opera House and Barn Theatre which are located on the corner of John Kani Road and Winston Ntshona Street, Central, Gqeberha was opened in 1892 and was proclaimed a national monument in 1980. The MBTC was declared a Schedule 3A cultural institution on 4 June 2021. The MBTC is the premier venue for staging performing arts productions, events and shows in the Eastern Cape. The MBTC offers a variety of fantastic facilities. There are two theatres in the building; The Opera House which is the Main Stage was built for ballet, Opera and big productions such as musicals while The Barn Theatre is a versatile space which when converted to cabaret style seating, has the capacity of 100, Theatre style seating of 80 and Gala seating of 150. MBTC annually produces Seasons (for dance, drama and comedy), Festivals (Mandela Bay Jazz Legacy Festival - May, Women in Arts Manyano - August, Udaba Dance Festival - September and Iphulo Drama Festival - March), Isakhono Performing Arts Awards, Performing Arts Graduate Incubator, while it mounts support for performing arts education and development programmes. MBTC welcomes and appreciates proposals for partnerships and inputs from prolific Independent Producers.

Die streeksfeesfinaal vind saam met ATKV-Sêr op Vrydag 14 Augustus om 16:30 plaas.

Die streeksfeesfinaliste word op Donderdag-aand, 13 Augustus na 22:00 op die ATKV se sosiale media bladsye aangekondig.

Die ATKV-Tienertoneelkompetisie is die oudste projek van die ATKV en kweek al vir twee-en-sestig jaar ’n liefde vir toneelskepping in Afrikaans, toneelspel en teater-kyk by hoërskoolleerders.

Met ATKV-Tienertoneel word leerders soveel geleenthede as moontlik gegee om by al die aspekte van die toneelstuk betrokke te raak, met ander woorde by die spel, regie, skryf van tekste, kostuums, dekor, grimering, klank, beligting, verhoogbestuur, choreografie en selfs bemarking!

Hierdie projek vind landwyd plaas deur die aanbied van streeksfeeste in Suid-Afrika en spog met ’n nasionale feesfinaal enig in sy soort waar die bestes van die bestes gekroon word.

Die ATKV het sy eerste nasionale sêrkompetisie vir studente in 1997 aangebied en dit het tyd geword om die stokkie oor te gee aan ons kreatiewe tieners om met hierdie gemaklike uitvoerende-kunstemedium te eksperimenteer. ATKV-Sêr vir hoërskoolleerders is ’n a capella-kompetisie wat in sy tienerformaat gaan neig na musiekteater deur tema, sang, dans en storievertelling.
